How Giving Makes You Happy

How Giving Makes You Happy

At some point in our lives, we come to learn that materialism doesn't always lead to happiness. That’s when a person has a chance to look around and find the true meaning and source of happiness. Giving instead of taking and helping those in need gives us a chance to go beyond our egoistic instincts and truly achieve happiness. Learning how to live in peace and harmony is essential to maintaining collective happiness.

Now is the time to understand how helping others can uplift society and how it is a life-changing experience. As a responsible member of society, learn how to help others with the right intention and expect nothing in return. Making other people's lives easier or better in some way makes you happier and makes this world a better place. Bertrand Russell, a well-known western philosopher and mathematicians says,

“Love is wise; hatred is foolish. In this world, which is getting more and more closely interconnected, we have to learn to tolerate each other, we have to learn to put up with the fact that some people say things that we don't like. We can only live together in that way. But if we are to live together, and not die together, we must learn a kind of charity and a kind of tolerance, which is absolutely vital to the continuation of human life on this planet.”

According to a study, Americans who donate more than 10 percent of their incomes are less likely to suffer from depression. Giving away money is not the only way to get the psychological rewards of generosity. People who are kind, hospitable, emotionally available, and giving in relationships are likely to enjoy healthier lives than those who are not.

It is impossible to experience the many benefits of giving until you give it a try and truly believe in your actions. You won’t achieve true happiness until you help others from your heart. Having self-confidence is one of the benefits of giving. When you have a reason to smile, it will be easy for you to keep going in the right direction.

Together with an active lifestyle and good health, it is important to work actively towards promoting community values and the environment. It’s great to be active in your community and encourage others to do so as well. Through MRI technology, researchers find that when people donate or do something to promote a noble cause, the midbrain region of the brain lit up showing a link between giving and pleasure.

When you start giving, it feels right and meaningful and you connect with those you are giving to on a level you never knew existed. By giving to others, you are giving to yourself and finding limitless happiness in small acts of peace.
